Under 16 Sevens
Tournament
Shane O'Neill's GFC is pleased to announce the first Under
16 Sevens Tournament on Saturday 7th August 2010. With the
recent development and popularity of the game at minor and
senior level, we are keen to stage an event that will showcase
the wealth of talent of talent at this age group, inviting
teams from within Armagh and neighbouring counties to enter
a team.
The offical launch of the event, sponsored by Pro-Signs,
took place at the club on Wednesday 23rd June. Present at
the launch were Armagh Senior player Ciaran McKeever, the
new Major of Newry & Mourne Mick Murphy, local MP and
club member Conor Murphy, Under 16 players and management
along with the club chairman John McLoughlin and other club
members.
We are keen to promote a competition based on the GAA ethos
of fair play, inclusion and respect. It is therefore anticipated
tht sixteen teams will take part forming four groups witht
he top two eams from each group qualifying to compete in the
cup and the remaining two teams in each group competing for
the shield. This will ensure each team has a fair chance of
winning silverware for their club with further individual
competitions (i.e. Cic Fada, Skills Competitiond, etc) to
coincide adding extra incentive for players.
Although the Sevens Tournament will form the central focus
of the day, we feel that the competition should be a family
orientated day out for all Gales young and old so the club
will be running a fun day (bouncy castles, etc) afterwards
for the children with live music in the club bar from 8.00pm
onwards. We would encourage youto bring as much support as
possible to what we envisage will be an annual fixture on
the Armagh GAA calender.
As there will be an array of activities taking place throughout
the day to coincide with the main competition we will seeking
the support of local businesses throughout the wider Newry
area and with a variety of different sponsorship options (match
programme, event signage and website advertisement) we would
encourage businesses to avail of this publicity and become
part of vibrant upcoming event that we anticipate will grow
in strength each year.
