Sarsfields 1-10 v Shane O'Neills
0-11
Peter O’Brien opened the scoring early on with
a pointed free before Sarsfields replied with a free
of their own and they went ahead minutes later with
a well taken point. Another free from O’Brien
levelled the game before Brendy Mackin put the Shanes
ahead with a monster point from away out on the side-line.
Sarsfields were next on the score-sheet when they
netted the only goal of the game and they followed
this up with a point to put them three ahead. Brendy
Mackin replied for the Shanes with a well taken free
before Sarsfields hit three points in a row to increase
their advantage with Paddy Gregory popping over a
point for the Shanes just before the break.
Sarsfields got the first two points of the second
period to put them into a six point lead but frees
from Peter O’Brien and Paul Donegan reduced
the deficit to four. Sarsfields increased their lead
again with another point before the Shanes hit a purple
patch, scoring four points in a row to leave them
behind by a single point. Brendy Mackin scored the
first of these points from a short free before Peter
O’Brien and Neil Paul Lennon punished further
indiscipline in the Sarsfields defence with two fine
frees and Brendy Mackin scored another great point
to leave it just a one point game. The Shanes tried
hard to get back on level terms but it wasn’t
to be and it was Sarsfields who got the last score
of the game to leave winners by just two points, 1
– 10 to 0 – 11.

Shane O'Neills 0-16 v Clonmore
0-07
Peter O’Brien put the Shanes on their way with
an early point with Clonmore equalising soon after.
Three points in a row from Paddy Gregory, Brendy Mackin
and Paul Donegan put the Shanes three ahead but Clonmore
reduced the deficit to just one with two quick points.
However, these proved to be their last scores of the
half as the Shanes scored a further four points with
out reply, the first two coming from captain for the
evening, Paddy Gregory, one off his right foot and
the other off his left. Neil Paul Lennon followed
this up with a long range pointed free before Paul
Donegan completed the first-half scoring with the
best score of the half, with three quick passes the
length of field and Donegan popping the ball over.
Peter O’Brien was on target early in the second-half
with a well taken point following some great defending
by the Shanes forwards which prevented Clonmore from
clearing their lines. With the Shanes now six to the
good further points from Brendy Mackin, Paul Donegan
and Raymie Fitzpatrick put them in total command of
the game. Clonmore replied with a decent point before
Micheál Brady tapped over the Shanes thirteenth
point with James Lennon following this up with a good
point from a short free. Clonmore managed to tag on
another three points but late points from Paddy Gregory
and Donal Feeley saw the Shanes make it fifteen wins
from sixteen games.

two goals and points from Brendy Mackin (2), James
Lennon (1) and Raymie Fitzpatrick (1). Early points
in the second-half from Neil Paul Lennon, Dan Fearon
and Paul Donegan saw the Shanes lead by nine before
two frees from Forkhill reduced the arrears to seven.

Shane O'Neills 1-10 v Belleek
0-06
Belleek opening the scoring with a well taken point
with Neil Paul Lennon replying for the Shanes with
a pointed free. A Paddy Gregory point put the Shanes
ahead but Belleek equalised soon after and they went
minutes later with their third point of the game.
A second pointed free Neil Paul Lennon brought the
sides level again but it was Belleek who went ahead
again with another point with the first-half almost
over. However, it was the Shanes who went into the
half-time break two points to the good following a
goal from Micheál Brady when a high ball into
the Belleek goalmouth wasn’t dealt with properly
and Micheál was on hand to fist it to the net.
The Shanes began the second-half with two quick points
to increase their lead to four, the scores coming
from Micheál Brady and Paddy Doran but Belleek
replied with two points of their own to keep them
right in the game. However, these scores proved to
be their last of the game as the Shanes eventually
took control and scored a further five points without
reply. Peter O’Brien got the first of these
with Neil Paul Lennon following with his third of
the game before Brendy Mackin fired the ball over.
Peter O’Brien scored the Shanes ninth point
of the match before James Lennon completed the scoring
with a long range point to leave the Shanes deserving
winners, 1 – 10 to 0 – 6.

Our senior team recorded another all important win
on Sunday with a three point win away to An Port Mor,
1–08 to 1–05, in what was a tough and
physical game. The Shanes were playing into a strong
wind in the first-half but they coped well with the
conditions with the defence in particular playing
well. It was a closely fought contest throughout but
Paul Donegan got the all important goal to see the
Shanes claim a hard fought win.

Shane O'Neills 1-16 v Annaghmore
0-14
Annaghmore made the better start to the game, scoring
three points early on before Dan Fearon replied for
the Shanes. A pointed free put Annaghmore three ahead
again before Peter O’Brien began the Shanes
comeback with two great individual points, taking
on the Annaghmore defence on both occasions before
taking his scores. A free from Neil Paul Lennon brought
the Shanes level before Sean Austin put the Shanes
ahead for the first time with a well taken point and
Raymie Fitzpatrick increased the lead with another
great point. Annaghmore levelled the game again soon
after with two quick points but Paddy Gregory restored
the Shanes lead with a fisted point after a bit of
a scramble in the Annaghmore goalmouth. However, it
was Annaghmore who went into the half-time in front
with two unanswered just before the break.
A Neil Paul Lennon free early in the second period
levelled the game once more before Raymie Fitzpatrick
gave the Shanes a three point lead when calmly finished
to the Annaghmore net after their keeper made a great
save from Paddy Doran. Both sides then swapped a couple
of points each, the Shanes scores coming from Paul
Donegan and Brendy Mackin and two further points from
Micheál Brady and Neil Paul Lennon put the
Shanes five up. Annaghmore kept themselves in the
hunt with another well worked point but the Shanes
kept pushing forward and registered another two quick
points from Neil Paul Lennon and Brendy Mackin. A
pointed free from Annaghmore was quickly cancelled
by a Paddy Doran point but the away side kept plugging
away and tagged on another two points before the end
of the game with Neil Paul Lennon getting the Shanes
final score with another great point from the dead
ball, to leave the Shanes winners on a score-line
of 1 – 16 to 0 – 14.

Eire Óg 1-03 v Shane
O'Neills 2-18
Raymie Fitzpatrick got the Shanes off the mark with
a great point, winning the ball direct from the kick-out
before driving the ball over to set the Shanes on
their way. Paddy Gregory and Brendy Mackin extended
the Shanes lead with well taken scores before Neil
Paul Lennon notched up his first point of the game.
A pointed free from Peter O’Brien put the Shanes
six points ahead and Lee Lennon made that seven soon
after with a good point. The Shanes almost managed
to keep their opponents scoreless in the first half
but Eire Óg got the last score of the half
with a decent point.
Lee Lennon was the first on the score-sheet early
in the second-half with a well worked point before
Damian Brady popped up from full-back to collect a
great ball from Paul Donegan and slide it into the
Eire Óg net. Eire Óg replied with a
goal of their own but Brendy Mackin responded for
the Shanes with a great point off the outside of his
right boot. Points from Micheál Brady, Raymie
Fitzpatrick and Neil Paul Lennon kept the score-board
ticking over before brilliant ball from Decky McDonald
found Raymie Fitzpatrick on the edge of the small
square and he duly fisted the ball to the back of
the net. The Shanes were in total control now and
further points from Paddy Gregory and Donal Feely
put the sixteen points ahead before Eire Óg
scored two points in a row to reduce the arrears slightly.
The Shanes finished the game in great style, scoring
a further four points with out reply, one from Donal
Feely and three from the boot of Neil Paul Lennon.

Collegeland 0-06 v Shane
O'Neills 0-13
The Shanes began the game in great fashion and soon
found themselves three points to the good with the
scores coming from Raymie Fitzpatrick (2) and a free
from Neil Paul Lennon. Despite conceding the early
scores Collegeland fought their way back into the
game and they themselves scored three points in a
row to bring them level. Micheál Brady put
the Shanes back in front with a well taken point following
some good work by Brendy Mackin and it was Mackin
himself who got the next point, firing over following
some good ball retention by the Shanes. A free from
Peter O’Brien was the final score of the half
and saw the Shanes lead by three at the break.
Brendy Mackin increased the Shanes advantage to four
with a well taken point early in the second-half before
Collegeland scored two in a row to leave just two
between them. However, the Shanes hit a bit of a purple
patch and scored five points in a row to all but seal
the victory. Paddy Gregory got the first of these
points before Neil Paul Lennon stroked over a free
following a foul on Peter O’Brien, the impressive
Paul Donegan chipped in with a point with Paddy Gregory
and Peter O’Brien grabbing a further point each.
Collegeland replied with a point late on but it was
Micheál Brady who got the last score of the
contest, clipping the ball over from a very tight
angle to leave the final score 0 – 13 to 0 –
6 in favour of Shane O’Neills.

Shane O'Neills 1-17 v Lissummon
0-05
Paddy Gregory had chance to open the scoring early
on but his fisted effort rebounded off the bar but
Peter O’Brien did put the Shanes ahead soon
after with a pointed free. Brendy Mackin got the Shanes
goal minutes when he took on the Lisummon defence
before side-footing the ball to the net and Paul Donegan
followed this up with a well taken point. Lisummon
got on the score-board minutes later with a good point
but the Shanes replied with a sweeping pitch length
move which ended with Raymie Fitzpatrick slotting
the ball over and Brendy Mackin followed this up with
a good point. Lisummon reduced the Shanes lead with
another point before Brendy Mackin put the Shanes
six ahead again when he cut in from the side-line
and put the ball over the bar. Lisummon managed to
get their third point of the half before the Shanes
scored two in row, one from Neil Paul Lennon and the
other a long range effort from Paddy Gregory. A pointed
free from Lisummon was the lastscore of the half and
the Shanes went in six points to the good, 1 –
7 to 0 – 4.
The Shanes got the first score of the second-half
when James Lennon bravely won the ball before giving
it to Paddy Gregory who popped it over the bar and
Neil Paul Lennon added another minutes later with
a pointed free. Lisummon then got their fifth point
of the match and this proved to be their final score
as the Shanes took total control of the game. Peter
O’Brien got his side’s tenth point of
the game when he curled the ball over from a tight
angle and Brendy Mackin followed this up with his
fourth score of the game. James Lennon popped over
the next point when he collected a short free from
Peter O’Brien and it was O’Brien who got
the next point with a well taken free. The Shanes
finished the game much the stronger side and scored
a further four points with scores coming from Sean
Austin, Neil Paul Lennon, Cathal Murphy and Peter
O’Brien to leave the Shanes deserving winners
on a score-line of 1- 17 to 0 – 5.

Middletown 1-09 v Shane O'Neills
0-09
Middletown, playing with a strong breeze at their
backs in the first-half, took an early lead before
Brendy Mackin levelled things up with a well taken
point. Middletown scored three points in a row before
Damian Brady stole forward from his corner-back berth
to put the ball over the bar. Paddy Gregory reduced
the arrears to one when he collected the ball from
Peter O’Brien before popping the ball over the
bar and Gregory was on hand minutes later to register
another point and bring the sides level again. Middletown
regained the lead with another long range point before
Peter O’Brien sent over a free to leave the
teams all square at the break, five points each.
The Shanes took the lead early in the second-half
when Neil Paul Lennon chased the ball into the corner
before finding Micheál McKeown who stroked
the ball confidently over the bar. Two points in a
row from Middletown saw them lead by one again before
Neil Paul Lennon replied for the Shanes with a well
taken free. Middletown went in front again with another
good point but another Neil Paul Lennon free made
the game all square for the sixth time. Middletown
then hit the Shanes with a sucker-punch when they
broke forward and drove at the heart of the Shanes
defence and finished the ball to the back of the net.
Another free from Neil Paul Lennon brought the Shanes
back to within two but Middletown got the last point
of the contest to win by three, 1 – 9 to 0 –

Belleek 0-06 v Shane O'Neills
0-17
James Lennon settled any early nerves with a good
opening point for the Shanes with Paddy Gregory adding
a second minutes later with another decent point before
Belleek got off the mark with a pointed free. Good
work from Dan Fearon set up Brendy Mackin for the
Shanes third point of the game before Paddy Gregory
rounded off a great move by fisting the ball over
the Belleek bar to increase the Shanes lead. James
Lennon got his second point of the evening with a
long range effort before Neil Paul Lennon confidently
stroked over a free to leave the Shanes five in front.
Belleek had a chance to reduce the deficit but a great
block from Kevin McParland blocked their path to goal
but they did register a point minutes later. Neil
Paul Lennon tapped over his second free of the game
before Belleek recorded their third point of the evening.
The Shanes added a further two points before the break,
with Raymie Fitzpatrick and Sean Austin on target,
the latter scoring following a great ball from Donal
Feeley. Belleek got the last point of the half to
leave the Shanes five to the good at the break.
The Shanes began the second-half on the front foot
with Neil Paul Lennon getting an early score following
some good work by Kristian Magill. Another point for
Belleek kept five between the sides but a pointed
free from Neil Paul Lennon increased the Shanes lead
to six before his younger brother Lee scored a great
point following some good work by Donal Feeley. Belleek
recorded another point from a free but this proved
to be their final score of the contest as the Shanes
took total control and dominated the last fifteen
– twenty minutes of the game. Raymie Fitzpatrick
was winning everything in the middle of the park and
it was his ball forward which led to Neil Paul Lennon
getting his fifth point of the game, again from a
free. Kristian Magill pointed a brilliant score following
a great lay-off from Paddy Gregory and it was Gregory
himself who got the Shanes fifteenth point of the
game with a well taken score. Magill tagged another
point beforehalf-back Paddy Doran strode forward to
fire over a brilliant point to leave the Shanes comprehensive
winners by eleven points, 0 – 17 to 0 –

Shane O'Neills 0-16 v St.Pauls
2-08
Peter O’Brien put the Shanes ahead early on
with a pointed free before some sloppy play in the
Shanes defence allowed St Pauls in a for goal which
they followed with a point. Lee Lennon replied with
a point for the Shanes before St Pauls added a further
three points with Brendy Mackin replying with a point
from a free. St Pauls went five ahead again with another
point before the Shanes hit five points in a row to
level the match, the scores coming from Brendy Mackin
(3) with Raymie Fitzpatrick and Peter O’Brien
grabbing one each. Having clawed their way back into
the game the Shanes conceded another goal and point
before Brendy Mackin scored his fifth point of the
half to leave three between at the break.
Peter O’Brien reduced the arrears to just two
points with an early free in the second-half before
St Pauls registered another two points, one from play
and one from a free. These scores proved to the away
side’s last of the game as the Shanes finally
got a grip on the game and a further two points from
Peter O’Brien set them on their way. Second-half
substitute Conor O’Neill reduced the deficit
to just one point before young O’Brien notched
up his sixth point of the evening to bring the Shanes
level. The home side had a couple of chances to take
the lead before the returning Neil Paul Lennon put
the Shanes in front before his brother James secured
victory with a well taken point to leave the final

Shane O'Neills 0-13 v Forkhill
0-09
Forkhill took the lead early on with in the first
minute with a good point before Brendy Mackin levelled
things up with a pointed free. Forkhill soon led by
two points with a point from play and another one
from a free. A point from Paddy Gregory reduced the
lead to one before a fine point from Lee Lennon brought
the sides level again. Another point from Gregory
put the Shanes in front for the first time but three
points in a row from Forkhill had them ahead by two
again. Right on the stroke of half-time a Brendy Mackin
point brought the Shanes back to within a point.
The second-half was ten minutes old before either
team registered a score with Decky McDonald getting
a good point to bring the Shanes level again. Two
points from Paddy Gregory and another one from Lee
Lennon put the Shanes three ahead before another Forkhill
point reduced the deficit. Micheál Brady scored
a great point for the home side but Forkhill replied
again with another pointed free. With less than ten
minutes the Shanes hit a bit of a purple patch and
scored three unanswered points to all but the seal
the win, the scores coming from Brendy Mackin (2)
and Peter O’Brien (1). The Shanes now led by

Clonmore 0-03 v Shane O'Neills
2-16
The sides were level early in the game at two points
a piece with Peter O’Brien and Donal Feeley
the early scorers for the Shanes. However when Brendy
Mackin fisted over the Shanes third point they never
looked back and went on to total dominate the game.
The Shanes midfield was working brilliantly and the
half-forwards were picking up a lot of break ball
and the next two points came this way with Peter O’Brien
and Paddy Gregory the scorers. Lee Lennon was the
scorer of the next point when good vision from Micheál
Brady found young Lennon who slotted the ball over.
Great work from corner-back David Boyle began the
move which led to the next score and Paddy Gregory
getting his second point. A pointed free from Brendy
Mackin saw the Shanes lead by seven at the break,
0 – 9 to 0 – 2.
The Shanes began the second-half in blistering fashion
and a monster point from young Peter O’Brien
put the Shanes ten points to the good. Decky McDonald
got the next Shanes score when his goal bound shot
was tipped over the bar by the Clonmore keeper. Brendy
Mackin scored the next two Shanes points, one following
a great move the length of the field with the second
coming from a free. Paddy Gregory then registered
the first Shanes goal when he was on the end of a
flowing move, once again started by David Boyle, with
Gregory slotting the ball under the body of the opposition
keeper. Decky McDonald followed this up with the Shanes
second goal when collected the ball from Peter O’Brien
before blasting the ball to the roof of the Clonmore
net. Paddy Gregory registered another Shanes point
before Clonmore got their solitary score of the second-half.
The Shanes kept pushing right to the end and further
a point each from Decky McDonald and Peter O’Brien
saw them record a comprehensive victory, 2 –
16 to 0 – 3.

Our seniors took on Belleek in a particularly tough

Armagh Division III - Friday
23rd April 2010
Shane O'Neills 2-16 v An
Port Mór 1-02
Peter O’Brien opened the scoring for the Shanes
early on with a pointed free before a good save from
the An Port Mór keeper denied Decky McDonald
a certain goal. Paddy Gregory got the second point
of the game when a long kick-out from the Shanes keeper,
Eric Casey, was well fielded and played forward quickly
allowing Gregory to slot the ball over. A Neil Paul
Lennon free put the Shanes three up but the sides
were soon level when an uncharacteristic mistake in
the Shanes defence allowed An Port Mór in for
a goal. A pointed free from the visitors saw them
take lead but this proved to be short lived as Paddy
Gregory got his fist to a long ball to flick it over
the bar and bring the Shanes level. The home side
hit the front again soon after when Peter O’Brien
collected the ball wide on the left before travelling
forward and driving the ball over the bar. The Shanes
registered their first goal of the game, and indeed
of the season, from the penalty spotwhen Decky McDonald
was upended by the An Port Mór keeper and Raymie
Fitzpatrick coolly dispatched the resulting penalty
to the back of the net. With the half almost over
Neil Paul Lennon chalked up his second point of the
game when he collected a ball from his younger brother
Lee before turning and putting the ball over with
his left foot to give the Shanes a five point lead
at the interval.
An early free from Neil Paul Lennon at the beginning
of the second-half was quickly followed by the home
side’ second goal. A long ball from midfielder
James Lennon was palmed down by the An Port Mór
right into the path of the in rushing Lee Lennon and
he made no mistake from close range. By this stage
the Shanes were playing with great confidence and
this was underlined with a great point from Peter
O’Brien and another from Paddy Gregory who managed
to squeeze the ball over the bar from a ridiculously
tight angle. A rare forage by An Port Mór into
the Shanes half resulted in them getting their third
and ultimately final score of the game with a point
from a free. Neil Paul Lennon quickly cancelled this
out with his fourth point of the game before the same
player tagged on another point, this time from a free
after his brother Lee was fouled as he bore down on
goal. A point from Paddy Gregory pushed the Shanes
lead out to thirteen points beforeanother free from
Neil Paul Lennon kept the score-board ticking over.
By this stage the result was completely beyond doubt
but the Shanes kept driving on and Lee Lennon registered
another great point following some good work by Conor
O’Neill, another talented young player who was
making his senior debut on Friday evening. With time
almost up the Shanes managed to tag on another two
points, one from Pete O’Brien who cut in front
the left-hand side before fisting the ball over the
bar with final score coming from the boot of second-half
substitute Donal Feeley to leave the final score Shane
O’Neills 2 – 16 An Port Mór 1 -
2.

Armagh Division III - Sunday
18th April 2010
Annaghmore 1-04 v Shane O'Neills
0-14
Neil Paul Lennon got the ball rolling for the Shanes
in the opening the minutes with a lovely right footed
point before Raymie Fitzpatrick followed with a great
point with the outside of the boot. The Shanes started
the game in great fashion and weren’t allowing
their opponents any time on ball and their next point
came from some great hassling from Kieran Murphy which
resulted in a Shanes free which Paddy Gregory dispatched
over the bar from away out on the side-line. Another
Shanes free resulted in Raymie Fitzpatrick finding
Lee Lennon who turned and put the bar over the bar
to the Camlough side four points in front. Annaghmore
reduced the lead with two quick points, one from a
free, before James Lennon got his side’s fifth
point of the half with a great long range effort.
The Shanes were dominant all over the field now and
the early ball into the forward line was causing all
sorts of problems for the Annaghmore defence, which
resulted in themfouling their opponents and Neil Paul
Lennon took full advantage when fired over two frees
in a row. Annaghmore replied with a free of their
own before Neil Paul Lennon scored his fourth point
of the half from another free to leave the Shanes
five points to the good at the break, 0 – 8
to 0 -5.
The Shanes began the second-half were they left off
in the first and it was that man Lennon on the score-board
again when he collected a short free and put the ball
over the bar. The Annaghmore defence grew more undisciplined
as the game wore on and the Shanes continued to punish
them from the placed ball with Neil Paul Lennon adding
a further two points and Pete O’Brien getting
another one from a tight angle away out on the left.
At this stage in the game the Shanes were nine points
in front but Annaghmore reduced the arrears to six
when they registered the only goal of the game. Following
their goal the home side tried to rally and get themselves
back into the game but the Shanes defence stood firm
and another Lennon free put them seven ahead and young
Declan McDonald increased this to eight when he put
the bar over from close range following a great save
from the Annaghmore keeper denying Lee Lennon a well
deserved goal. Annaghmore got the lastpoint of the
game but by then the Shanes had the points wrapped
up and ran out deserving winners on a score-line of
0 – 14 to 1- 4.

Armagh Division III - Sunday
11th April 2010
Shane O'Neills 0-12 v Eire
Og 1-06
In the opening minutes both sides were understandably
a bit rusty and it took a pointed free from Peter
O’Brien to get the Shanes up and running. However,
the Shanes soon found themselves two points in arrears
when a mix-up in their goalmouth allowed Eire Óg
to scramble the ball to the net. Another two frees
from Eire Óg saw them edge four points ahead
but these proved to be their last scores of the half
as the Shanes upped their game and took a firm grip
on the match. A great left foot point from Peter O’Brien
got the Shanes going before Neil Paul Lennon pointed
a free to leave two between them. Paddy Gregory reduced
the arrears to a single point with another well taken
score before another Peter O’Brien free brought
the sides level. Paddy Doran put the Shanes in front
when he drove forward from his half-back berth to
confidently strike the ball over the bar and Kieran
Murphy added another Shanes point when he beat his
man before driving theball over from a very tight
angle.
Eire Óg made a great start to the second-
half and soon found themselves back on level terms
with two pointed frees and another free saw them wipe
out their half-time deficit to lead by a point. They
had a couple of chances to increase their lead but
they only managed to tag on another point before a
long range score from big midfielder James Lennon
brought the Shanes back to within a point. This score
seemed to lift the Shanes and Kieran Murphy got his
second point of the game to bring the sides level
once more. Having scored a monster point moments earlier,
James Lennon put the Shanes in front when he was on
the end of another good move to slot the ball over
the bar before his younger brother, Neil Paul, put
the home side further ahead when he finished off a
great move which began in our own half-back line with
Peter O’Brien making a great interception before
surging forward to set up the score. Full forward
Paddy Gregory rounded off the scoring forthe Shanes
with his second point of the match to leave the final
score 0 – 12 to 1 – 6 in favour of the
Shanes.
