Seniors
Our senior team had no game last week. They were scheduled
to play Middletown on Friday evening but due to hurling commitments
within the Middletown club they was called off.
Minors
Our minors were due to play Belleek last
Monday evening but Belleek were unable to field. Following
the South Board meeting last week our minor team have moved
up to play the remainder of the teams in Division 1 who failed
to qualify in the top four of their league and therefore didn’t
go on to All County football.
Under 16's
Our U16 team had no game last week.
Under 14's
Our U14s fell to disappointing defeat against
Mullaghbawn on Tuesday evening. Whilst it hasn’t been
a great season for the lads they continue to battle away and
must be praised for the effort and commitment throughout the
year.
Under 12's
Our U12s had no game last week.
Under 10's
Our U10 A team travelled to Silverbridge
last Wednesday searching for another win. However, despite
having a lot of possession they left their shooting boots
at home and were beaten by the home side but the result could
have been a lot different had the team taken their chances.
In saying that, they tried hard and battled right until the
final whistle. Our U10 B team were scheduled to have a game
on Sunday morning but it was cancelled due to cemetery mass
in Carrickcruppen.
Under 8's
Training for our U8s continues every Thursday
evening at the field from 6.30pm. All boys and girls in this
age group are welcome to come along and join in.
Girl's Football
This past week saw both the U-14 and U-12
teams advance in their respective championships. First up
were the U-14 side who met Whitecross at home on Monday last.
A tight first half ended with Shanes grabbing two quick goals
and they pressed home their advantage in the second half to
run out worthy winners despite a spirited fight back by Whitecross.
This was an excellent team performance and all players in
the squad played a part. Final score Shane O Neills 6-8 Whitecross
1-6. A quarter-final tie now lies ahead against the winners
of Carrickcruppen and St Peters.
The U-12 side travelled to Lurgan to face St Peters on Friday
evening and began without 5 regulars currently on holiday.
That didn't hamper their performance as a first half scoring
blitz killed the game as a contest and Shanes ran out easy
winners to progress to the semi- final of the All County Championship.
Final score Shane O Neills 9-12 St Peters 0-5.
In their first year in ladies football the U-12s remain unbeaten
and are also in the league semi-final with one league fixture
remaining which is away to Crossmaglen this Friday, 11th July.
Well done to the management team of Peter Lynch, Brendan McGuire,
Clare Carroll and Freda Mackin and to all the girls for a
great first year of girls football at the Shanes.
