Seniors
Our seniors continued their league campaign on Saturday evening
with home game gainst O’Hanlons and put another two
league points on the board with a resounding twelve point
win – 2-15 to 0-9.
After a slow start to the game Brendy Mackin put the Shanes
in front with a well taken point. Donal Feely extended the
Shanes lead with a good point following some great fielding
by Darren Grant. The third point for the Shanes came from
the boot of Kieran Murphy after some great defending from
Peter O’Brien to break up an attack by O’Hanlons.
The visitors then registered their first score with a pointed
free. The Shanes extended their lead when Raymie Fitzpatrick
converted a penalty kick to the back of the net after the
same player was fouled as he was bearing down on goal. Raymie
quickly followed this up with another point before O’Hanlons
scored their second point from a free. The next point from
Neil Paul Lennon was undoubtedly the score of the half, with
the ball travelling the full length of pitch before Neil Paul
slotted it over the bar. Two quick points from O’Hanlons
left five between the sides before Micheál Brady popped
over another point for the Shanes. Another free for O’Hanlons
just before half-time reduced the margin again but the Shanes
went into the break leading by 1-7 to 0-5.
O’Hanlons got the first point of the second half before
James Lennon got on the score-sheet for the Shanes with a
fine point. O’Hanlons got another point before Brendy
Mackin scored three unanswered points for the Shanes. Another
point from a free for O’Hanlons cut the gap again but
a brilliant individual point from Brendy Mackin and another
from Neil Paul Lennon saw the Shanes leading by double scores
1-13 to 0-8. O’Hanlons pointed another free but this
proved to be their last score of the game. Raymie Fitzpatrick
increased his and the Shanes total with a great individual
goal before Darren Grant and Kieran Murphy scored point a
piece to leave the final score 2- 15 to 0-9 in favour of Shane
O’Neills.
This was another very workman like performance from the Shanes
which sees them on maximum league points from three games
played.
Minors
Our minor team travelled to Culloville on
Monday evening but unfortunately returned empty handed. The
lads put on a good display but in the end were beaten by a
very strong home side.
Under 16's
Our U16s continued their impressive start
to the season with another comprehensive victory on Thursday
night, this time away to Forkhill. The lads started the game
brightly and quickly found themselves in front, a lead they
kept until the final whistle and ran out comfortable winners.
Under 14's
Our U14s had a morale boosting win on Tuesday
night with a two point victory over Silverbridge. The lads
have been on the wrong side of a few results lately but they
dug deep on Tuesday night to secure the all important win.
The lads found themselves trailing at half-time but they came
out with renewed heart in the second period and fought hard
to fully deserve their two point win.
Under 10's
Both our U10 teams were action on Sunday
morning with the A team at home to Silverbridge and our B
team making the short journey to Carrickcruppen. Much the
same as last week it is our B team which take the plaudits
following another great win. Well done to everyone and let’s
hope they can keep it going over the coming weeks. Our A team
were soundly beaten by a very good Silverbridge side. It’s
early in the season yet but hopefully the team can improve
over the coming weeks and show how good they really are. Our
A team were also in action on Wednesday night with a challenge
game against Newry Bosco. The entire team played very well
in this match and ran out convincing winners. Training for
our U10s continues every Friday night at 6.30pm at the club.
Under 8's
Our U8s have a challenge game lined up for
this Thursday evening when they travel to take on Mullaghbawn
– good luck to all those involved. A number of other
challenge games are also being lined up for the very near
future.
Ladies Football
Our U14 girls had no game this week but our
U12s took to the field for their first ever home game on Thursday
night when they took on near neighbours Carrickcruppen. A
large crowd were on hand to witness the historic event which
saw the Shanes emerge victorious with a very convincing win.
Despite falling behind early on the Shanes soon get to grips
with the game and when they got into full flow the result
was never in doubt. All the girls and team management should
be congratulated on a very fine performance which sees them
sitting on maximum points after their first two league games.

With Regret
It is with great regret and sympathy that
I have to announce the retirement from senior football of
one of the clubs greats – Terence Feehan. Terence donned
the Shanes jersey on many occasions and never let the side
down. Terence has finally decided to call it a day and hang
his boots up and everyone at the club would like to thank
Terence for all his efforts over the years. He can now concentrate
on his new role as club treasurer.
