Sunday 13th May - St.Peter’s 1-11 v Shane O’Neill’s 0-12
Brendy Mackin opened the scoring for the Shanes in the opening minutes before two
points in a row from St Peters edged them ahead but two frees from Peter O’Brien
put the Shanes back in front again. St Peters moved ahead again minutes later when
they scored the only goal of the game and this score really lifted the Lurgan side
as they registered the a further three points in a row to put them five points to
the good. A Kristian Magill point kept the Shanes in touch before St Peters restored
their five point advantage with another well taken score. The Shanes finished the
half the much better side, scoring four answered points to leave just one between
the sides at the break, with Lee Lennon, Paul O’Rourke, Marc Feehan and Damian Brady
all on target.
An early point from St Peters at the beginning of the second-half put them two ahead
but two pointed frees from Brendy Mackin levelled the game once more. However, it
was the Lurgan men who upped their game after this and they registered another three
points in a row before a free from Peter O’Brien and another point from Brendy Mackin
left just the minimum between the sides. The Shanes went all out for the equalising
score but they were unable to get back on level terms and it was St Peters who recorded
the final point of the game to win by two, 1 – 11 to 0 – 12.

Tullysaran were on the score-board first with an early point but the Shanes equalised
soon after with a point from Paul O’Rourke. A Conor McKinley point put the Shanes
in front and this was quickly followed by a free from Peter O’Brien and another from
O’Rourke. Tullysaran got their second point of the game before two points in a row
from young McKinley put the Shanes four up when a ’45 from Neil Paul Lennon found
its way to the Tullysaran net and put the Shanes firmly in control. However, Tullysaran
took control of the rest of the first-half and got the next six scores of the game,
5 points and a goal from the penalty spot to put them one ahead with the interval
fast approaching but a point from Marc Feehan saw the teams all square at the break,
1 – 7 each.
A Paul O’Rourke point at the start of the second-half was quickly cancelled out by
Tullysaran’s eight point of the game. The Shanes got their second goal of the game
soon after when a great flowing move ended with Marc Feehan sliding the ball under
the Tullysaran keeper to put the Shanes three to the good. The Shanes defence, marshalled
superbly by Kevin McParland, were well on top of their opponents now and the Shanes
got the next four points of the game, two from Neil Paul Lennon and two from half-back
Dan Fearon to push them six points ahead. A point from Tullysaran reduced the deficit
but another free from O’Brien and great individual score from Raymie Fitzpatrick
kept the Shanes well in control. Minutes later however a high ball in towards the
Shanes square caused great confusion and Tullysaran capitalised fully by grabbing
their second goal of the match. Despite being the better the team the Shanes still
only led by five at this stage but the Camlough upped their game again and four points
in a row, two from Neil Paul Lennon and one each from Conor McKinley and Paul O’Rourke
sealed the win for the Shanes despite Tullysaran getting the last point of the contest.
